As some of you may have been aware, this last week, the museum was asked to remove our antique apparatus and other artifacts from the Fire Department facility where they have been stored for the past 40 years. The Museum building only has so much room, and many of our larger items as well at the antique apparatus, including the 1913 Seagrave Buckboard Chemical Engine, the 1920 Model TT Hose Wagon, the 1927 Ahrens Fox M-X-2 Pumper and the community favorite, the 1958 American LaFrance Series 700 Engine, affectionately known as “The Wedge” have to be stored somewhere else.
We want you to know that the Museum Board acted quickly, and with the help of many active department Firefighters, successfully moved our stored artifacts, some dating back to the mid 1800’s, to a safe place. We were able to negotiate with the assistance of SCFF Local 1171 President Anthony Pascoal and the current Fire Chief to have the 4 antique apparatus remain in their current storage location.
The Museum board would like to thank the Santa Clara City Firefighters Local 1171 for their swift help and support in this matter. They stepped up and helped us protect the history of the Department and we are forever grateful. To all of the Firefighters who have served with the City – we promise to continue to curate and educate the community about the great history of the men and women who have protected the City of Santa Clara since 1855.
